Dakota Parmley

Hey there. Welcome.

I believe that if you’re here, part of you intuits that there’s another way to relate to your suffering, and is actively seeking that way. This is, in many respects, what Zen might call the “Way-seeking mind,” and it arises when we have an aspiration to live more wholeheartedly, or our suffering is immense enough that we finally feel we have to try something—anything—different. Often these are the same.

Through my own journey, I have come to a felt understanding of the beauty and importance of psychotherapy and safe places to be heard, seen, and uncover the sacredness of one’s own depths. Life can often be difficult, and we don’t have to do it alone. The space I offer here is in large part so you don’t have to do this alone, as much as it is also to help accompany you to the answers that reside in your depths.

I am shaped by over seven years of practice in Soto Zen Buddhism, experiences with ceremonial work and shamanic traditions, training in depth-oriented counseling, Hakomi, and Primary Attachment Therapy. My work arises from a personal longing to live with sincerity and to remember the sacredness of being alive together.

This work, to me, goes beyond traditional talk therapy and has the capacity to deeply and radically transform our relationship to self and world, if that is what one desires. This is the “Heart of Remembrance” because remembrance, in its original meaning, is a state of devoted, constant abiding with something. In this understanding, we remember the heart, we remember our deeper Self, and we are working to remember our unity with all of life.

I specialize in working with people who are recovering from spiritual emergencies/psychotic breaks, adolescents struggling with anxiety and depression, and adults who are suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or a feeling of “stuckness.”
